The Cypriot pianist Yiannis Georgiou was born in London.
He studied at Trinity College of Music with John Bingham and Alexander
Ardakov where he received numerous awards for his playing and graduated
in 1994.
His fascination for the Russian piano school and his love for Russian
music led him to continue his studies in Moscow, at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire,
initially with Professor Valery Kastelsky, a student of Heinrich Neuhaus,
and finally with Pavel Nersessian, whose piano studio is regarded as one
of the most interesting and prolific in the world.
He graduated in 1999 with the Aspirant Diploma, the only British born
or Cypriot Pianist to have graduated with this award.
Since then he has given numerous piano recitals, has broadcast and made
orchestral appearances as a soloist both in the UK and the rest of Europe.
